The Junghans Meister Telemeter is a mechanical instrument presented with uncommon elegance.

Its design draws from the first Junghans chronograph to combine telemeter and tachymeter displays in 1951. Rather than placing those functions on a heavy external bezel, Junghans integrates both scales into the dial, allowing the polished case to retain the smooth, restrained profile of the Meister collection.

The result is a watch with genuine technical depth that remains balanced, legible and refined enough to wear well beyond its sporting origins.

Two Scales, Two Ways of Measuring

The outer tachymeter scale can be used with the chronograph to calculate average speed over a known distance. Closer to the center, the red telemeter scale estimates the distance of an event that can be both seen and heard, such as lightning followed by thunder.

Both functions are controlled through the chronograph pushers. The central chronograph hand tracks elapsed seconds, while the bowl-shaped counter at 9 o’clock records up to 30 elapsed minutes. Running seconds are displayed in the matching subdial at 3 o’clock.

Depth Without Excess

The matte silver-plated dial is shaped into a gentle dome, with curved sword-style hands following its contour. Luminous Arabic numerals and hands provide clarity in lower light, while the red telemeter markings introduce one controlled accent of color.

Measuring 40.8 mm across and 12.6 mm high, the polished stainless steel case gives the dial room to breathe without becoming bulky. A domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides preserves the vintage profile while providing modern scratch resistance and clarity.

The J880.3 Automatic Chronograph

Inside is the Junghans J880.3 self-winding mechanical chronograph movement, offering a power reserve of up to 42 hours. Its construction allows the Meister Telemeter to deliver significant mechanical functionality while maintaining the collection’s elegant proportions.

The movement can be viewed through the exhibition case back—a fitting conclusion to a watch whose technical purpose is never concealed, only carefully composed.
